Hospitality at the Radisson Blu Kigali

When I made a decision to explore Rwanda, I had no expectations for the trip. I kept an open mind as I have learned through my travel experiences. I was in awe by the hospitality I received in Rwanda. The Rwandan experience is highly underrated among the top experiences in Africa.

To be brutally honest, most times when I travel, I shy away from chain hotels. I prefer to stay in boutique hotels because of the authentic localized experience. However, the hospitality at the Radisson Blu Kigali was far from the regular chain hotel experience. I stayed there for 3 nights; I couldn’t have made a better choice.  Starting from my personalized chauffeured luxury van pickup from the airport to the warm welcome at the hotel by the concierge at the entrance, I felt uniquely catered to.

Although, I arrived very late at night, I was blown away by the beautiful hotel lobby. It was exactly what I needed to reset my mind from a hectic work week. It was both magnificent and charming. At a quick glance, it is very hard to believe that the hotel has 292 rooms because it felt intimate. To make my experience even more rewarding, I visited Kigali during the African Movie Award weekend, as a result I was able to catch a glimpse of a few Nigerian celebrities who also made the Radisson Blu Kigali their hotel of choice.

After a quick and efficient check-in process, I was ushered to my room by a concierge through a brightly lit orange colored hallway. This modern cozy room was exactly what I needed after a long day of delayed flights.  I loved the innovative use of the space and layout of the room. It was very clean. I slept like a baby on Radisson’s most sought after experience – the heavenly beds.

Perfectly located a few kilometers from the airport, the views at the hotel are magnificent. I could totally wake up to this view everyday; the landscape was simply breathtaking. I really enjoyed the quiet and relaxing feel of this part of town, although it is a 7-10min taxi ride to Kigali’s downtown. It was exactly what I needed!

The hotel has a pool area, tennis court, and various bar areas and restaurants where you can get the much needed relaxation despite its commonly known business appeal. I really enjoyed lounging around the pool and bar areas. The gym facility was just the perfect size; it was clean and modern.

I was impressed at the breakfast experience; there was a great selection to choose from. A mix of healthy, local, and continental cuisines. The freshly squeezed tree tomato, orange juice, and passion fruit were my favorites. Kigali has some amazing fresh fruit selection.

Writing about my experience at the Radisson Blu Kigali without mentioning the staff, would be doing it injustice. The staff at Radisson were very professional, helpful and nice. Because of them, I felt at home in Kigali. One of the staff helped me negotiate a local taxi ride to Nyabugogo bus station; that was extremely helpful.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Radisson Blu Kigali and this kick-started an amazing experience in Rwanda. I cannot wait to visit Kigali again, and of course stay at the Radisson.
